Bio. Bozenna Pasik-Duncan is a Professor of Mathematics and a Courtesy Professor of EECS and AE at the University of Kansas (KU). She received her Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Warsaw in 1970, and her Ph.D. and D.Sc. (Habilitation) degrees from the Warsaw School of Economics in Poland in 1978 and 1986, respectively. Her research interests are primarily in stochastic adaptive control, and stochastic analysis with its applications to finance, medicine, actuarial sciences, and telecommunications, and control education at all levels including K-12. Before moving to KU in 1984, she was a faculty member of the Department of Mathematics at Warsaw School of Economics. She was Vice President of Warsaw Chapter of Polish Mathematical Society and Director of the Applied Mathematics Center of the Polish Mathematical Society.

She has been actively involved in the Society for industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) in a number of capacities such as: Program Director of SIAM Activity Group on Control and Systems Theory (SIAG/CST), a position that she holds currently and also held in 1992-1995, member of SIAM Master Program Steering Committees, and local organizer of the 1996 Annual SIAM Meeting.

For the last 25 years she has been actively involved in the Control Systems Society (CSS) in a number of capacities, such as: Associate Editor and Associate Editor at Large of Transactions on Automatic Control (TAC), appointed and two term elected member of the Board of Governors, founder and Chair of Standing Committees on Assistance of Engineers at Risk and Women in Control, Associate Editor at Large of (TAC), CSS Liaison to IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Committee, Chair of Standing Committee on International Affairs, Chair of Task Force on Globalization, Vice-President for Membership Activities, long-term Chair of TC on Control Education and member of CSS Conference Board.

She is a Fellow of IEEE and a Fellow of IFAC, recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Medal, and CSS Distinguished Member. She is a member of the KU Women's Hall of Fame and recipient of many awards, including NSF Career Advancement Award, Polish Ministry of Higher Education and Science Award, IREX Fellowship for research in the US, Kemper Fellowship, and Service to Kansas Award. In 2002, she received the University of Kansas HOPE (Honor to Outstanding Progressive Educator) Award, and remains the only mathematician to have been given this honor. In 2004 she received the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Fourteenth Annual Louise Hay Award.

She currently serves as Deputy Chair of CSS TC on Control Education, Chair of AACC TC on Education, CSS Liaison to IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology, member of IEEE-USA Communication Committee, member of IEEE WIE Committee, two-term Past Chair of IFAC Harold Chestnut Control Engineering Textbook Prize Selection Committee and IFAC TC on Control Education, Chair of KU Outreach Program, Faculty Advisor to KU AWM Student Chapter, member of KU Faculty Senate. She was elected the IFAC Liaison to Education and joined the IFAC Technical Board.
